Frequently Asked Questions

+ Wait a second, what’s a Kegel anyway? And why is it so important?

They were invented by an American gynecologist named Arnold Kegel to be a non-surgical alternative for urinary incontinence caused by ‘perineal muscle weakness or laxity.’ First published in 1948, they’re a specialized exercise that strengthens the pelvic floor muscles that support the bladder, uterus, small intestine and rectum. They have become widely known as the best natural way to help treat urinary incontinence.

But the trick to their effectiveness is doing them correctly and regularly!I always thought I was doing them right – holding my pee and just squeezing my vagina up. But finding my pelvic floor and isolating the necessary muscles is much more than that. And doing Kegels incorrectly can weaken the pelvic floor muscles and cause damage or even pain during intercourse.

+ Why don’t more people talk about their pelvic health issues?

To put it bluntly, the average person is ashamed or embarrassed by their leaks, and we’ve spent a lot of time being told that peeing ourselves is just part of life, what happens after childbirth, or part of getting old. If you’re feeling alone, you are most definitely not! The numbers show more than 50% of women are affected by urinary incontinence in their lives. Only half of those women get help, sometimes waiting 6.5 years from their first symptom to even start!

  • 54% of women report loss of confidence, and 45% reported a loss of intimacy.
  • 25-50% experience sexual dysfunction.
  • more than 30% avoid athletic activities out of fear. That’s no way to live! If you’re anything like me, you want an effective, long-lasting solution that doesn’t make you feel defeated, so you can get back to living your best life!

+ What’s Emsella® and how can it help me?

EMSELLA® comes from 2 words; EM meaning electromagnetic, and Sella meaning chair in Latin. It was developed by BTL – a world leader in magnetic technology in aesthetics and physiotherapy.

The Emsella® chair uses HIFEM (High-Intensity Focused Electromagnetic) technology that causes deep stimulation and restoration of pelvic floor muscular control. This 'deep stimulation' is equivalent to doing almost 11,000 Kegel exercises! Now you also know how the Emsella® got its nickname - the Kegel Throne.

Explore just how incredible our throne is.

+ WOAH!! How does it do 11,000 Kegels?!

I know, right! I didn’t believe it myself. In my entire lifetime of doing Kegels (mostly incorrectly) on the train or driving, while eating dinner, watching movies or sitting at my desk, I don’t think I’ve ever done that many, and I’m not sure that I ever could. The Emsella® chair sends those focused electromagnetic pulses right to your pelvic muscles to correctly do that elusive Kegel contraction – almost 11,000 times in just 28 mins!

But can't doing THAT many Kegels also cause damage? Good question! Short answer - no, not with Emsella®

Long Answer - if you were to do that many Kegels on your own over a long period, yes. Mainly because doing each one perfectly would prove difficult, and like any other muscle, overworking causes strain. The Emsella® protocol is a precise and controlled intensity that ensures the muscles are activated correctly while including relaxation phases, so the musculature isn’t overworked.

Learn more about the mechanism of action.

+ Does it ACTUALLY work?

According to the tens of thousands of satisfied Emsella® users, yes it does! It’s so effective that Emsella® won the Innovation in Women’s Health award for 2019 and 2020.

Clinical results:

  • 75% of study participants significantly decreased or eliminated urinary leakage completely.
  • 95% reported an improvement in their quality of life.
  • 100% experienced improvements in sexual function within 3 months.

+ But is it safe?

Yes. The BTL Emsella® is Health Canada and FDA cleared to treat urinary incontinence in women and men.

+ Can anyone sit on The Kegel Throne?

If you’re experiencing leaks of any kind, you will benefit from treatments with Emsella®. If you’re also experiencing prolapse, fecal incontinence, pain during intercourse, frequent night wakings to use the bathroom, and other pelvic floor disorders you can also benefit from Emsella®.

We welcome anyone at V Lounge regardless of what gender you were born with. Everyone has a pelvic floor and deserves to have it performing at its best.

There are a couple exceptions though:

  • If your incontinence is related to existing pelvic tension, which we will determine during your initial consult.
  • If you’re currently menstruating, you’ll have to wait until after your period to start treatments.
  • If you’re pregnant, it’s recommended to wait until your Dr. clears you for exercise and after your bleeding stops.
  • If you have any metal implants, including copper IUDs, a titanium hip or a pacemaker.

I have a pessary? Is that an exception? Nope! As long as it’s not metal, you can leave your pessary in place for your treatment.

+ Can I give it a spin?

Absolutely! In fact, we want you to come and have a seat on our throne, experience the Emsella® chair in action for yourself. Book your FREE demo and start the process of Regaining Your Continence.

+ What about me? I’m a gentleman.

Definitely. Men have a pelvic floor too and having a strong one is just as beneficial for you as it is for women! Men struggle with pelvic floor and bladder issues like leaks, overactivity and urge sensations. If you’ve been waking up more at night, having trouble holding an erection like you used to, or have undergone treatments for prostate cancer, you may have a weakened pelvic floor.

The same mechanism that makes Emsella® so effective for women is the same one that can help you! And trust me, your partner will thank you for it.

Discover how Emsella® can help you too.

+ So how is this going to feel exactly?

It’s gentle, believe it or not! Once you’re properly seated on the Throne, we’ll adjust the intensity to your comfort level and keep adjusting it every session. You will feel a tingling sensation and contraction of your entire pelvic floor.

Treatments are walk-in, walk-out – which means you’ll be able to go about your day as usual!

+ How long is this really going to take?

The standard protocol is 6 sessions over 3 weeks, with 2-3 days in between. Having time between your sessions gives the muscles optimal time to recover. We’ll establish the right treatment path for you during your initial consultation and book your sessions accordingly.

+ What if I can’t make it to my session?

If you need to reschedule an appointment, that's OK. We understand life can get hectic!

Just use our online booking tool to pick a better day or time – just try to keep it in the same week!

+ When will I stop peeing myself?

In some cases, improvements can be seen after your first session! It’s more likely that you’ll gradually see improvements over the weeks during and after your treatment as your pelvic floor adjusts.

+ Do I need to take my clothes off at all?

NO! You can wear whatever you darn well please. You never have to remove anything, and you can sit in your own comfy clothes. Loose fitting clothing and yoga pants are encouraged.

+ Will I have to be touched, you know, down there?

NEVER! I think this was my favourite part about my treatments with Emsella®. No one tried to touch me or put anything inside me. After having a baby and having multiple people right in there, the LAST thing I wanted when I was experiencing my prolapse and incontinence issues were more people in my lady parts.

It was such a relief to find a treatment that DID NOT require this.

But how do you know if I’m eligible then? Good question! We’ll go through a series of eligibility questions and your health history to determine if Emsella® is the right treatment for you.

+ I heard there are some sexy side effects. Is that true?

Yup! It’s true, sitting on this throne CAN enhance your sex life. Increased blood flow and better control of your pelvic floor means stronger, longer lasting orgasms and increased sensation during sex – for everyone!

+ OK, so I did the whole treatment program. Am I set for life?

Almost! Like any other muscle group, the key to lasting results is repetition. The good news is, with Emsella®, this is amazingly simple. No, we’re not going to send you home with more pelvic work to do. Once you’ve completed your treatment, you can come and visit us every 4 months for a bit of a Kegel boost to maintain all those benefits.

The best part is that you may NEVER have to pay for your maintenance sessions. Want to know how? Ask me about our referral program!

+ Can I bring a friend? My mom? My grandmother? My Aunt?

Absolutely, bring them all! In fact, anyone you refer for Emsella® treatments earns you maintenance credits! Plus, you can all book a Girls Night and get your treatments together.

How much fun would it be to spend a night with your favourite people watching a movie, eating local treats and sipping on a beverage while getting your treatment done?

Read more about our exclusive Girls Nights.

We offer a couple different options for payments and some pretty good perks:
